Future Solutions & The Clean Coal Mandate

Further Technical Solutions
Clean coal technologies include:

  • improved combustion efficiency and reduced emissions in conventional sub-critical, new super-critical and new ultra super-critical power plants;
  • integrated coal gasification combined cycle and pressurized fluidized bed combustion;
  • integrated coal gasification fuel cells;
  • new approaches to carbon capture and storage; and,
  • the production of hydrogen from coal, which will play a large part in the transition to a hydrogen-based future.

The ultimate goal is near complete elimination of emissions.

The Clean Coal Mandate
To power economic growth on the order of 500%, we will have to burn coal. Nuclear and renewable energy sources will be important, but will not fully bridge the gap. To meet world energy demand and keep CO2 and pollutant emissions in check, we must deploy advanced technologies. These technologies will need to burn cleaner, more efficient coal and allow its carbon content to be captured.
